behind the words:
daisy couldn’t sit still any longer. her heart was broken. she needed to getaway from the constant reminders she felt living on Memory Lane. so that settled it. time to say goodbye.
she packed at least six pairs of shoes. she wasn’t sure where the trip would take her but she was prepared to cut the rug, drink white wine on a rooftop and run all the way back home if she needed to.
driving so far so fast made it easy for her to see that all this time she’d been living on an island and now she’d gotten the gist of it — east to west. she saw her first cactus in the wild. she felt rare rain beat across her chest in the desert. and, she watched two tail ends of a perfect rainbow come together in a pink sky.
eventually, she would have to return, go back down Memory Lane. when she got home, she opened her suitcase filled with all her different kinds of shoes — stilettos and sandals and hiking boots — but she didn’t unpack. something was missing. she had come a long way not to feel like she was back.
